Advisor ‘Toolkit’ Makes it Easy to Help Protect 401(k)s

Plan advisors now have an easy-to-use “toolkit” — a set of customizable messages to clients and participants, banner ads and more — to help spread the word about the critical need to protect American workers’ retirement savings. The toolkit is part of the “Save My 401k” effort launched Nov. 26 by ASPPA and NAPA. As the debate over the “fiscal cliff” and tax reform heats up on Capitol Hill, the best way to defend 401(k) plans is by lobbying — inundating Congress with as many as 250,000 emails from plan participants and plan sponsors. The campaign’s message is simple and clear: Go to the Save My 401k website and use the automated system to send individual members of Congress an email that says, “Stay away from my 401(k)!” The campaign is using the power and emotion of social media to raise awareness and action on the part of employers and plan participants. To be successful, the involvement of all plan advisors — both NAPA members and those who are not NAPA members — is critical in driving people to the website.
