Best of the Best: Leadership Award Finalist Bradley K. Arends

Editor’s Note: This is the third of three profiles of the finalists for the 2014 NAPA 401(k) Leadership Award.

Now in its seventh year, the NAPA 401(k) Advisor Leadership Award continues to recognize leadership, innovation and contributions to the retirement plan industry with the sales, marketing and establishment of 401(k) plans.

The three finalists for this year's Leadership Award are Alliance Benefit Group Financial Services, represented by Bradley K. Arends, J.D.; Compass Financial Partners, represented by Kathleen A. Kelly, CRPS®, AIFA®; and Maresh Yoshida 401(k) Group, represented by Henry Yoshida, CFP®, CIMA®. One of the three will receive the 2014 401(k) Advisor Leadership Award during the 2014 NAPA 401(k) SUMMIT, March 24 in New Orleans.

Bradley K. Arends, J.D., is CEO and Senior Consultant at Alliance Benefit Group Financial Services, Corp. in Albert Lea, MN. Arends has worked in the ERISA and investment areas for 30 years, concentrating on the design, communication and funding of defined contribution plans, Section 125 flexible benefits plans, health savings accounts and executive compensation programs.

Arends has been instrumental in negotiating strategic alliances with investment companies and custodians for the funding of participant-investment-directed 401(k), 403(b), 457, profit sharing and money purchase pension plans. He has extensive knowledge and experience in designing and implementing effective employee communication/education strategies for salary reduction retirement programs, medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and multi-tiered health programs, for which Alliance has received national recognition.

He serves on the TPA Advisor Council for Fidelity Investments Institutional Wealth Services Group, the Schwab Retirement Business Services Trust & Custody Advisory Board and the Advisory Council for SunGard Relius. Arends is a member of the Employee Benefit Section of the Minnesota Bar, and is a former president of Retirement Administrators and Designers of America (RADA). He has been involved in various local volunteer organizations, including positions on the Board of Directors of the YMCA and JOBS, Inc., the Albert Lea Lake Restoration Committee and the United Way.
