EBSA Head Preston Rutledge Invited to Speak at the NAPA 401(k) SUMMIT

The newly appointed head of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) is slated to help kick off the 2018 NAPA 401(k) SUMMIT.

Preston Rutledge, EBSA Assistant Secretary of Labor, has a long history of working with the regulations and legislation that affect workplace retirement plans, and he’s been invited to join American Retirement Association CEO Brian Graff for an exclusive and wide-ranging discussion about the future prospects for the fiduciary regulation, open MEPs, state-run retirement plans and electronic disclosures.

Before joining the Department of Labor, Rutledge served as senior tax and benefits counsel on the Majority Tax Staff of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. There he was intimately involved in the development of the Retirement Enhancement and Savings Act of 2016 (RESA), which contained more than 30 mainly retirement-related provisions and cost offsets, including a proposal that would create a type of open MEP that would allow two or more unrelated private employers to adopt a DC “pooled employer plan,” or PEP. RESA sailed through the Senate Finance Committee on a unanimous, bipartisan vote of 26-0.

Rutledge has also served in the IRS, as a senior tax law specialist on the Headquarters Staff of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division and senior technical reviewer in the Qualified Pension Plans Branch of the Office of Chief Counsel. In the private sector, he has practiced law as an employee benefits counselor and ERISA litigator.

It’s all part of the Advisor Experience at the NAPA 401(k) SUMMIT – the nation’s retirement plan advisor convention.

If you miss it, you’ll be missing out.

Another reason to be at Summit this year, where retirement focused leaders have a great opportunity to interact. The knowledge and talking points that come out of Summit are important differentiators in a crowded marketplace.
