Excuses, Excuses

Life – and retirement plan administration – is full of tough decisions.

As you help plan sponsors and participants make good choices, from time to time you probably encounter all kinds of rational, reasonable objections to the counsel you offer on such matters – as well the occasional irrational, unreasonable kind.

What some might even consider an excuse, rather than a reason. It might be a reluctance to embrace automatic enrollment, resistance to limit the number of participant loans, to remove a poorly performing fund from the plan menu, or even the reason(s) proffered for a hardship withdrawal.

This week, I’d like to ask you to share some of your “favorite” excuses, either offered to you, or to others of your acquaintance.
