A new study claims that working more than 25 hours a week has a “negative impact” on cognition. Cognition notwithstanding, how many hours/week do you work, on average?
That study – conducted on Australians – found that while working hours up to around 25 hours a week, an increase in working hours has a positive impact on cognitive functioning, though beyond that the researchers found a negative impact (they also found no statistical difference in the effects of working hours on cognitive functioning between men and women).
One word of caution: They only tested the effect on middle-aged and older adults.
Not that most of us couldn’t all use (or feel like we could use) a shorter workweek, but this week I’d like to know, what’s your normal workweek like, hourswise – how much do you spend in the office (versus travelling or telework), and is it affecting your productivity?
