Sean Murray Named Head of BlackRock’s DCIO Sales

BlackRock is doubling down on the DC market with the appointment of Sean Murray as head of DCIO sales. Murray will report to Managing Director Ralph Haberli. Though Murray's position was reported as a new one, Dick Darian had fulfilled that role previously. Darian will now focus on top aggregators and key relationships with broker dealers and record keepers. Murray previously held a similar position at Pimco.

BlackRock’s LifePath TDFs are pushing the “Big 3,” seeing initial success with CITs for aggregators like NFP Retirement and Pensionmark, with more in the works. Recognizing the growing importance of aggregators, BlackRock has decided to create a group led by industry veteran Darian, who will also cover select partners. “We intend to cover these key partners differently taking a more institutional approach,” notes Darian. “Rather than cover these groups with mid-level key account managers, we decided to take a more high level consultative approach.”

BlackRock's DCIO wholesalers, led by divisional managers Eban Wheeler and Jeff Stevens, will report to Murray; Darian will continue to report to Haberli.
