Senate Appropriations Bill Targets Fiduciary Proposal

Appropriations subcommittees on Capitol Hill — first in the House and now in the Senate — have taken a shot at blocking the Labor Department’s fiduciary proposal by denying funding for the measure.

Not that it’s likely to matter much, but on June 23 the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies, approved a $153.2 billion measure that funds a range of priorities involving health, education and workforce training and development for FY 2016.

In a press release, the committee notes that its budget recommendations include “several provisions to restrain regulatory overreach by the administration, including Fiduciary Rule at the Department of Labor.”

Other restraining measures were directed at:
• Joint Employer standard at the National Labor Relations Board
• Ambush Elections rule at the National Labor Relations Board
• Micro-union decisions at the National Labor Relations Board
• Dietary Guidelines at the Department of Health and Human Services

The Senate bill will now head to the full appropriations panel in that chamber. The House bill that would cut off DOL funding for the fiduciary rule is scheduled to be voted on today.
