Best of the Best: Leadership Award Finalist Henry Yoshida

Editor’s Note: This is the second of three profiles of the finalists for the 2014 NAPA 401(k) Leadership Award.

Now in its seventh year, the NAPA 401(k) Advisor Leadership Award continues to recognize leadership, innovation and contributions to the retirement plan industry with the sales, marketing and establishment of 401(k) plans.

The three finalists for this year's Leadership Award are Alliance Benefit Group Financial Services, represented by Bradley K. Arends, J.D.; Compass Financial Partners, represented by Kathleen A. Kelly, CRPS®, AIFA®; and Maresh Yoshida 401(k) Group, represented by Henry Yoshida, CFP®, CIMA®. One of the three will receive the 2014 401(k) Advisor Leadership Award during the 2014 NAPA 401(k) SUMMIT, March 24 in New Orleans.

For more than 10 years, The Maresh Yoshida 401k Group, based in Austin, TX, has been providing fully independent and objective recommendations to plan sponsors and their employees. With a primary focus on ERISA consulting for both publicly and privately held companies and non-profit organizations, the firm has expertise and organizational commitment to bring institutional-level fiduciary management procedures related to retirement plans to mid- and large-size companies from both a process and a service provider standpoint.

Finalist Henry Yoshida, CFP®, CIMA®, CRPS®, CRPC®, is co-founder and principal of Maresh Yoshida. He has more than 10 years of corporate retirement plan experience, and specializes in assisting companies with plan provider analyses, plan design, investment selection and fiduciary liability management.

In 2012 and 2013, Yoshida was recognized as a finalist for PLANSPONSOR magazine’s Retirement Plan Adviser and Adviser Team of the Year. The Maresh Yoshida 401k Group has been selected as "one of the most successful retirement plan advisor teams in America“ (2006-2009, 2011-2012) by PLANSPONSOR magazine and as one of the "300 most influential advisor teams in defined contribution" by 401kWire in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Yoshida also received individual recognition as one of the "top 10 most influential 401k advisors in America" in the large market ($50 million to $500 million) by 401kWire in 2010 and 2011.

Yoshida was a founding lecturer at The UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education TRAU program for the Certified 401k Professional (CkP) designation. He shares his industry expertise as a regular speaker at several industry conferences, including the PLANADVISER National Conference, PLANSPONSOR National Conference and NAPA 401(k) SUMMIT. In addition, he actively contributes as a member in several industry organizations, including ASPPA and NAPA, the Investment Management Consultants Association, the Financial Planning Association, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Austin Human Resource Management Association, the San Antonio Human Resource Management Association, HR Houston, the Central Texas Compensation and Benefits Association, the Southwest Benefits Association and the CFA Institute.
