READER POLL: More Awareness of America Saves Week?

Industry Trends and Research

This is (was?) America Saves Week. While most of us think about saving – and help others save – all year long, this week has been set aside as “an annual event to encourage more Americans to save effectively.” This week we asked NAPA-Net readers to weigh in.

Okay, so technically the week isn’t over until tomorrow (March 2). And, while the responses to this week’s reader poll were a bit fewer than “normal” this week, roughly 43% said they had heard of America Saves Week (Feb. 24-March 2), and another 29% said they had heard about it – now.

The rest said they were aware – but that it had slipped up on them this year.

That said, most (57%) weren’t doing anything special tied in with the week, though 43% were “promoting the campaign as part of their regular messaging.” Another 15% (more than one response was permitted) were participating in twitter communications about and around the event(s).

Not a lot of reader comments this week, but a couple stood out. One reader noted: “I think overall it’s a big yawn. We could really use some PR people in the industry to give it more of a Mardi Gras feel ;)”

Another commented: “It is a great idea. Unfortunately, it is not often publicized sufficiently. That is the feeling I get from our clients. As plan sponsor, our firm publicizes retirement savings in our plan every May.”

But the one that really resonated came from a reader who noted, “Given the way most of America doesn’t save, maybe it should be renamed as ‘America Needs to Save Week.’”

Hmmm…

Thanks to everyone who participated in our weekly NAPA-Net Reader Poll!
