READER POLL: What Do You Think About… NAPA-Net

Inside NAPA

We’re (already) planning for 2020 – and for this week’s NAPA-Net Reader Poll, we asked readers to tell us what they think about… NAPA-Net.

Respondents to this week’s reader poll were, as you might expect, readers – and regular readers at that. Three-quarters read it every single day (though about a quarter acknowledge that that’s not always the same day it comes out. The rest were spread between weekly (about 1 in 10 wait for the Week in Review to catch up), every other day, or varied, depending on travel schedule.

Respondents tend to skim “the daily,” relying on headlines and the brief descriptions to tip them to the stories most applicable to their situations. As far as the length of the newsletter, more than 6 in 10 said it was “the perfect, digestible length,” though a quarter (27%) were willing to consider change, noting that “it should be as long as it needs to be to give me critical information.” Eight percent said they wouldn’t mind it being a little shorter, 5% said they wouldn’t mind it being a little longer.

Delivery Timing

Internally, we occasionally talk about an optimal timing for delivery of the news – and, for most of its history, NAPA-Net has been delivered about 10:00 a.m. ET (the logic, as one reader commented, “I think it’s a great time – after we digest the morning news and market opening”). That works for 45% of this week’s respondents, though nearly as many (40%) said they had no particular preference as to the timing.

That said, about 18% would like to receive it earlier, and a couple would prefer an afternoon delivery.

We asked readers to tell us what they like about NAPA-Net – and what we could do to make it better. With regard to the former, we got some very nice comments – readers told us they appreciated the timeliness of the information, the brevity of the delivery, the range of topics, the quality of the curation – and a large number commended us for the accuracy of our reporting. “The landscape changes constantly and Napa Net is able to boil down events so that we can apply it to how it affects our clients and business,” noted one reader. “It keeps me in-the-know. It’s what’s on the minds (or should be on the minds of retirement plan specialists/consultants/advisors. It’s insightful and concise. It is extremely helpful to my daily role.”

Another reader noted, “It’s the information we need to hear in a format that works for me.” Or, as another commented, “I feel confident I’m keeping up with everything I need to know as long as I read NAPA-Net.”

As for what we could do better, we got some interesting suggestions, and we’ll be taking those into consideration in the months ahead. Though I have to confess that I was also appreciative of the comment of the reader who said, “I love the fact that you are looking to make improvements, but honestly, it’s one of the few must reads for me – not much needs to change in my opinion.”

We very much appreciate the comments and input received this week – so much so that I’m going to leave the survey window open for another week. If you haven’t yet weighed in, I hope very much that you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to help us make NAPA-Net better for you.
