Recruiting Advisors Changes with the Times

The need for financial advisors may not have changed, but the way they are recruited has. The application of electronic communication evolves endlessly; it has moved well beyond making finding and recruiting advisors faster and easier, and is now changing how they are recruited.

It’s not new for companies in the financial sector to turn to third parties to recruit FAs, but now it’s even easier — they can simply wait for advisors to reach out to them. The vehicle that is fueling the shift from seeking the help of outside recruiters to in-house candidate searches: LinkedIn.

According to InvestmentNews, LinkedIn has made it possible for employers in the financial services sector to have in-house recruiters pore over advisors’ LinkedIn profiles in order to find promising candidates they can then approach. This has hurt recruiters, according to the report, although some of them use it to their advantage. Those proactive recruiters take the initiative and use the online service themselves to seek potential advisors to recommend to their clients.
