Senate Approves Peirce, Crenshaw as SEC Commissioners

Regulatory Agencies

Late Thursday August 6, the U.S. Senate approved (by voice vote) the nominations of Hester Peirce and Caroline Crenshaw to serve as commissioners on the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Peirce was approved to serve a term expiring June 5, 2025. A Republican whose current term expired June 5, Peirce has served since December 2017, when she filled the open seat vacated by former commissioner Daniel Gallagher, who stepped down in October 2015.

Crenshaw was approved for a term expiring June 5, 2024. She replaces Robert Jackson, Jr., who departed the Commission in February after his term expired in June 2019. (Commissioners are permitted to serve up to an additional 18 months beyond the expiration of their term.)  Crenshaw joins Allison Lee as the second Democratic commissioner. Lee was confirmed in June 2019 to fill the open Democratic seat that was vacated by former commissioner Kara Stein, who left the SEC at the beginning of 2019.
