And the Best Retirement Theme Song Is…

This week we asked NAPA Net readers to weigh in on the best song(s) about retirement.

While Memorial Day represents a special time to commemorate the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price that we may enjoy the freedoms we have, it also traditionally marks the beginning of the summer vacation season.

So, as you crank up the tunes — in your car or personal listening device, out by the pool or as you fire up the grill… let’s face it, if retirement has a soundtrack, it’s going to be one heck of a playlist. And here’s yours.

Last year our top five were:

We Gotta Get Out of This Place – The Animals
Too Much Time on My Hands – Styx
I Can’t Hold Back – Survivor
Born to Be Wild – Steppenwolf
Too Late to Turn Back Now – Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose

Somewhat surprisingly, while those songs were on this year’s playlist, none made it into the 2016 top five. The top-voted song (and there were thousands of votes), by a substantial margin, was:

Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay – Otis Redding

The rest of the top five were:

Don't Stop Believing – Journey
Already Gone – Eagles
A Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles
The Best is Yet to Come – Frank Sinatra

Rounding out the top 10 were:

Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes – Jimmy Buffet
My Way – Frank Sinatra
Born to Run – Bruce Springsteen
Leaving on a Jet Plane – Peter, Paul & Mary
Let the Good Times Roll – The Cars
