Health, Family and a Chance to Make a Difference

Next week is, of course, Thanksgiving — a day on which it seems fitting to reflect on all for which we should be thankful. This week we gave readers a chance to share (anonymously, of course) what they were thankful for.

Here are some of the best:

Thankful for family and a place to go everyday (work) even if I don't like it.

My husband, daughter and I, and most of our family are healthy and are in pretty good financial shape. We forget to be thankful for the everyday things in our lives that are going well, and tend to be too negative about the tiny minority of things that bother us.

My health, period. Without your health sharing experiences with family and friends can become very challenging. Be share to take care of yourself so that you can continue to take care of others.

Family and health. The people I work with. An improved economy.

I am thankful for over 40 years of working in the retirement industry. Thankful for “government regulation” of an industry that needed it. We no longer have plans that 100% vest only at age 65. I was involved in the first plan restatements in 1975, when things were typed with a typewriter and training wasn't on a flat screen... still doing document restatements every 6 years and very thankful for health and a good PC.

Father, brother, three awesome nephews, 21-year-old cat, friends and their children, extended family, job, home.

Family, friends and health.

I am thankful for my family, especially my two boys that I had at 42, because I almost didn't “do” the kids thing. I am thankful I have a job I enjoy and that treats me well. In that vein, I'm kinda, sorta thankful the regulations change all the time because I do enjoy new learning opportunities.

I am thankful we had a warmer than average fall so we got to spend lots of time outdoors (which we would do anyway) without freezing this year. I could go on and on (and I'm thankful for that!), but I'd also like to say I'm thankful for this poll each week. I don't always have time to answer the questions, but I always make time to read the answers. I really enjoy it! (Editor’s Note: Thank you!)

I am thankful to be saved by the amazing grace of God and to know Jesus Christ, the only way of salvation, as my Savior and Lord! Nothing else in life can compare to that!

I am thankful for this great country, flaws and all; for my family, for this wonderful, wacky 401k business, and for great partners, like you! I am thankful for good health, a reasonably keen mind, and the ability to work and continue to serve (at least for the moment) a great group of clients. And above all else, at the risk of being PC-incorrect, I am thankful to God for all of these blessings. Happy Thanksgiving!

The freedoms that we have in America and that we take for granted every day.

Good health, a good job, friends, family, a home, and being born in the U.S. of America.

I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for each new day that I am still alive and healthy enough to get up and go to work. I am thankful that I have a job when so many do not. I am thankful that I earn enough money to have a decent home to live in when so many are homeless, and enough food to eat when so many are starving.

I am thankful for many things but this poll triggered a realization for me. I am thankful to be in the retirement plan industry. Three and a half years ago I knew very little about retirement plans. I was hired by a TPA/record keeper mainly for my computer skills. I’ve learned so much and have a great desire to learn more every day. It’s a complicated industry but that's what makes the people in it so special. We are all here to help others prepare for the future. The common worker doesn’t understand all the ins and outs of investing. All they really know is that they need to have money when they retire. Our job is to help them accomplish that. To me, it’s quite satisfying to know I can help ease their minds a little. I am thankful to have that opportunity.

A very special thanks to everyone who — this week, and every week — responded to our weekly NAPA Net reader poll!
