How Many 401(k) Accounts Do You (Still) Have?

The challenges associated with rolling over one’s 401(k) balance from one plan to another are well-chronicled – and they’ve been known to thwart the most determined account consolidator. So, how many 401(k) accounts do you have?

Now, there are legitimate reasons for leaving your 401(k) “behind” when you change employers; perhaps you like a unique fund option, maybe the expenses are particularly low, there might be company stock involved, or it could even be that you the managed account feature is “special.” That said, we all know that it can be problematic to manage retirement investments across multiple accounts – and that there are services out there that can help even the most time-challenged individual combine those accounts (or put them all in an IRA).

That said – and whether there are “rational” reasons for doing so – or simply the inconvenience of bringing them together – I’m sure that at least some of you have more than one account out there – and this week – even if you only have one – we’d like to hear from you.

And we’ll have it all “rolled up” for you on Friday!
