Reader Poll: A Split Decision for the World Series?

The 2017 World Series is off to a great start (certainly if you are a Dodgers or Astros fan) – but who are NAPA Net readers rooting for?

Well, just over half (55%) think the Los Angeles Dodgers will win. Perhaps needless to say, the rest (45%) think it will be the Astros.

That may be what they think will happen – but it’s not what they hope will happen, where the numbers are pretty much reversed. More than half (59%) are pulling for the Astros, but only 27% are backing the Dodgers. What about the rest? They’re split evenly between rooting for “somebody else” (ostensibly someone who isn’t on the field), and those who “couldn’t care less.”

“No, I am a disappointed Cubs fan; but if the Dodgers win, at least we know the Cubs lost to the best team in the league,” explained one reader.

The first two games have been pretty exciting (especially Wednesday night’s), and so this might change – because nearly a third (31%) planned to watch all of the World Series, and another 41% said they planned to watch some of it.

We also got a number of comments. Here are some:

  • “I'm afraid to watch... I might jinx the team.”

  • “Playoff baseball is possibly the best there is to watch... every single pitch, swing and play counts. Momentum shifts with the slightest and simplest bounce of the ball. It’s truly a thing of beauty. As many say down in south Louisiana, ‘Geaux ’Streauxs’!”

  • “GO ASTROS!!! ALTUVE!!!!”

  • “It is a good day to be alive in America!”

  • “The games start way too late, unless my home team is in the series, I tend not to watch much of them.”

  • “Always good to see a team that’s never won a World Series before finally do so, hence Go Astros!”

  •  “Yikes – it's a natural disaster World Series – Houston hurricane vs. CA wildfires – I slightly favor Houston, since the CA wildfires were further north than LA. Houstonians need something to cheer about!”

  • “Always good to see teams that rebuilt instead of buying all of the talent. Both of these developed players acquired in the draft or through trades and investing in key free agents when they got close.”

  • “As a Detroit fan, I would like to see Justin Verlander get a World Series ring. Of course I would like it more if it was playing for the now-dismantled Tigers. But nonetheless I think most here in southeast Michigan wish him well. I also think Houston needs a little pick-me-up after Harvey. Also, as an American League city I usually root for the American League team (unless it’s the Yankees). But on the other hand, I hear the Dodgers are a bunch of great guys, and it’s been quite a year for them. I won’t be too sad if they pull it out. Looking forward to watching some great baseball – hope it goes to 7 games.”
