Reader Poll: How’s Your Social (Media) Standing?

There wasn’t much social media variety among this week’s respondents, who either used LinkedIn for work – or didn’t use social media at all.

That’s right, no Facebook, no Twitter, no Pinterest, no Instagram.

Moreover, those among this week’s respondents who have been using social media for work haven’t been doing so long – two-thirds for less than a year, and the rest just 1-3 years.

As a consequence, perhaps, the impact on their business has been muted. Roughly half said it has no impact at all, with a quarter saying it has had a moderately positive impact, and roughly one in five a “pretty negligible” impact. The rest said moderately negative (one respondent said it had been “very negative,” but provided no details).

Support for social media usage was similarly mixed. About a quarter said their firms did support their social media usage, but a nearly equal number said they didn’t support it. The rest described their support as “sort of.”

Those limitations not withstanding nearly two-thirds who said that they found LinkedIn to be most effective for work.

Outside of work, usage is more varied: Nearly 6 out of 10 use Facebook, a quarter use Twitter, and almost as many use Instagram. Usage ranged from 1-3 years (42%) to 3-5 years (38%) to 5-10 years (20%).
