Reader Poll: Patriots vs. Falcons

Although fans of the Packers and Steelers are surely disappointed, we now know who’ll be meeting in Super Bowl 51 – so, who are NAPA Net readers pulling for?

Well, roughly one in five (21.4%) were “pulling for the Patriots,” while nearly twice as many (38.1%) were favoring the Falcons. And then there were the 26.2% who were rooting for “anybody but the Patriots.”

The remaining 14%? Split pretty evenly between those “rooting for the commercials” and those who “couldn’t care less.”

That’s a bigger spread than the oddsmakers are placing on the game. The Patriots have been here before (to put it mildly), the Falcons just once – and that back in 1999. The Patriots will be wearing white (11 of the last 12 Super Bowl winners were wearing white jerseys). The Patriots are a slight (3 point) favorite, but then a year ago, the Panthers headed into the game favored by 6.

Speaking of commercials, we asked readers if they had a favorite. Budweiser Clydesdale commercials were the most commonly cited, although the old Pepsi/Mean Joe Greene also showed up a lot, as did Terry Tate, office linebacker, and cat herding.

Or, as one reader noted, “I did a quick Google for the best commercials to be sure the one I chose was in fact a Super Bowl ad (it was) but is also reminded me of others that were great (McDonalds with Bird and Jordan playing H.O.R.S.E. – nothing but net) and the Monster ad with the kids giving the adult answers to what do you want to be when you grow up (I want to be in middle management...) I love the game, hope it is good one and just hope that there is at least one really good ad each year.”

Amen to that.
