Who’s the Best ERISA Attorney?

William Shakespeare once famously wrote, “The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.” But then the Bard hadn’t tried to deal with ERISA.

There are many ways that lawyers contribute to a better understanding of pension law — some litigate, some defend against litigation, while still others advocate by pursuing policy aims, make their way into the legislature (and back), to regulators (and back), and still others help keep the system running smoothly (or at least out of trouble) by serving as in-house counsel, compliance officers and the like.

Some even write in order to help others better understand the intricacies (and potential pitfalls) in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974.

While there are many ways to contribute to (and not a few to impede) the progress of our nation’s private retirement system, we wanted to give you a chance to vote (anonymously, of course) for your favorite(s) with our unique voting tool.

We’ve got a starter set list, of course — but this is your chance to weigh in — and/or add some of your own! After all, one reader’s “best” is another’s villain!

How it Works

You’ll be given two options from which to choose — pick one, or add one of your own choosing to the poll. Can’t decide between the lesser of two evils (or “goods”?) There’s an option for that as well. Then you’ll get two more to vote on, and so on. Vote as often as you’d like.

And while we’ve given you a list to start with, feel free to add your own (or post them in the comments below, and we’ll do that for you)!

You can cast your vote(s) at http://ideas.asppa.org:3001/2015bestERISAatty.

Let the voting begin! And feel free to share this voting link!

Note: The “kill the lawyers” line is from “Henry VI,” Part II, Act IV, Scene II, Line 73. But lest one read too much negativity into that sentiment, see “'Kill the Lawyers,’ A Line Misinterpreted.”
