John Hancock Announces RPS Leadership Transitions

John Hancock has announced that Gary Tankersley has been promoted to head of Sales and Distribution for John Hancock Retirement Plan Services (JHRPS), effective immediately.

Also promoted was Abigail Benham into the role of vice president for National Accounts with responsibility for overseeing JHRPS’ relationships with broker-dealers and consulting firms as well as a team of national account managers.

According to a press release, Tankersley will report to Patrick Murphy, president and CEO, JHRPS, and join the senior leadership team at RPS. Tankersley, who will be based in Denver, is  accountable for growing JHRPS business in all segments of the market, encompassing start-ups to large organizations and the Taft-Hartley market to drive new sales, as well as expanding and overseeing JHRPS’ relationship with broker dealers.

In a parallel announcement, George Revoir, senior vice president, National Accounts & Distribution, will retire from JHRPS in December. “George has been an asset to John Hancock and the entire retirement industry,” said Murphy. “We appreciate his dedication and expertise through the years and are thankful that he will be with us through the end of the year to help the leadership team with some key initiatives.”

Tankersley joined John Hancock in February 2000 as regional vice president at JHRPS. He was promoted to divisional vice president for the Central Region in January 2013 and has served in that role until this announcement.

Benham, who will report to Tankersley, joined JHRPS in 1998 as a marketing associate and has worked most recently as Manager, National Accounts. In that role since 2007, she was responsible for developing strategy and executing business plans for several of John Hancock’s largest broker dealer relationships, representing more than a third of JHRPS key account assets, according to the firm.
