Rep. Camp Calls it Quits

Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, announced March 31 that he will not seek reelection this year. In a statement announcing his retirement from the House at the end of the current congressional term, Camp indicated that his goals for the remainder of his term include “fixing our broken tax code.”

The 60-year-old Camp has chaired the House’s tax-writing committee since 2011. His 6-year term as ranking Republican member on Ways & Means will expire at the end of this year. Camp’s term was marked by his partnership with former Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and their highly touted efforts to reform the tax code. Baucus resigned from Congress in February to become the U.S. Ambassador to China.

Camp’s likely successor at Ways & Means: 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).
