Every Step You Take… Makes a Difference

Last year, the 401k Summit leadership offered the opportunity for early attendees to share their hearts and hands through participation in several Rebuilding Together worksites. Attendees worked on a range of projects, including retiling bathrooms, landscaping, insulating walls, painting, and installing new windows and cabinets. The response from the volunteers was overwhelming, and their efforts made an impact in someone’s life. They wanted to do it again in 2013.

In the retirement plan community we all have the opportunity to make an impact in someone’s life — on a daily basis. But rarely do we have the chance to do something side by side with our colleagues and broader community. This year NAPA has codified last year’s volunteer effort into an annual event, where we can work side by side to create an impact for a community, family or child.

Introducing the ‘Steps for Success’ Program

As our conferences grow in size, we must seek larger venues. These large venues mean longer walks from your hotel rooms to the various event rooms. Let’s face facts, the 401(k) Summit is a great place to learn about trends in retirement plans, connect with industry leaders and consider a new way to solve challenging problems. It’s also becoming a bit hard on your feet. Walking back and forth to the various sessions and social activities can take toll on your soles. Now you can change your perception; every step you take can make a difference.

Here’s how Steps for Success will work: Through the generosity of our sponsors, every step you take will count toward a collective conference goal of 5 million steps. As we reach each million-step milestone from one to five, the Steps for Success sponsors will contribute to The Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas. If we are able to secure sponsors and collectively walk the 5 million steps, we can contribute as much as $30,000 to the Boys & Girls programs. Also, the individual with the most total steps in Las Vegas will receive a free registration to the 2014 401(k) Summit in New Orleans.

Get a Move On!

For attendees, participation is simple: Purchase and connect your pedometer ($15). Walk, run, jog, skip or dance as much as you can each day. Then text your results when prompted at each general session.

If you have already registered and were not prompted to purchase a pedometer, don't be concerned. Here's a link to the registration form – you can sign up right now! In addition, a separate “registration” email will be sent to folks who have already registered, either on their own or through an Exhibitor package. Also, The Boys & Girls Club will have a booth in the Exhibit Hall, and NAPA Summit volunteers will be selling pedometers at their booth.

Meet The Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas

The mission of The Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. They believe that every child needs a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, and access to life-enhancing programs and character development experiences. They work to provide hope and opportunity to every child in their programs.
