NAPA PAC Starts Off Strong in 2014

Thanks to the momentum from the NAPA 401(k) Summit, the NAPA Political Action Committee (PAC) started off strong in the first quarter of the year.

NAPA PAC works to make sure that advisors’ voices are heard on Capitol Hill by educating members of Congress and regulators on how federal legislation and regulations affect our industry and America’s retirement. It also allows NAPA to pool its members’ financial resources to participate collectively in the political process. In this way, the PAC strengthens NAPA’s voice in Congress — political contributions merely open the door so that voice can be heard.

NAPA PAC originally set a goal of raising $35,000 at the 2014 NAPA 401(k) Summit. Because of NAPA advisors’ involvement in recruiting new PAC contributors and some outstanding donations from financial advisors at the Summit who recognized the importance of advocating for our industry, we were able to collect more than $40,000 for the PAC — exceeding the goal by more than $5,000. This represents a new record for PAC fundraising at the Summit.

During the Summit, NAPA PAC hosted a luncheon with Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) to hear her outlook on the upcoming congressional elections, tax reform and the impending re-proposal of the DOL’s definition of fiduciary rule.

NAPA PAC would like to thank those who generously gave their time. Without the help of our PAC volunteers, we would not have been able to keep up with the rush of advisors who wanted to donate at the NAPA PAC booth.

Now the work gets tougher for us. Since this is an election year, we will be working to ensure that those who are elected understand the importance of America’s retirement system. Our next big gathering won’t take place until the NAPA Fly-In Forum in September, so we have to keep the momentum going.
