‘That’s Not in our Wheelhouse…’

Let me be perfectly clear: Even from a 30,000 foot view, that is not in our wheelhouse, and at the end of the day we just need to bring our ‘A’ game and think outside the box to achieve synergy.

Sound familiar? Well, perhaps not all strung together like that, but as we all know, these days it’s almost impossible to have a meeting, make a presentation or even have a business-related conversation without being bombarded by buzzwords.

This week we asked readers to weigh in on the worst/most obnoxious of the lot — and, “to be perfectly honest…"

Most obnoxious goes to “that’s (in/not in) our wheelhouse,” followed (very) closely by “let me be perfectly clear,” which was actually tied with “30,000 foot view.”

The rest of the top 10 were:

  • Synergy

  • Need to bring our ‘A’ game

  • We need to think outside the box

  • At the end of the day

  • Value-added

  • Get on the same page

  • Game changer

Building on the ‘Buzz’

Now that you have a core list to work with, you might want to check out a couple of interesting tools for your next meeting or presentation:

  • Bullsh*it Bingo Okay, this one might be tough to access at work, but it allows you to input a list of buzzwords and generate your own “bingo” cards that you can use to make sitting through that next eye-roller meeting a little more entertaining.

  • Buzzword Generator For those who are true buzzword masochists, you can actually use this tool to create your own. Just remember (as the site points out), the Buzzword Profit Rule says that “the profits of any company shall be inversely proportional to the number of vague industry buzzwords used in its mission statement. Special profit deductions given for turning nouns into verbs, as in "productize."

Thanks to everyone who participated in our reader poll — we’ll have another one on Tuesday! Feel free to keep the discussion going — post a comment (or two) below!
