Are You the Yellow Pages of the Retirement Plan Business?

While getting the paper last Sunday, I found a door hanger for the Yellow Pages — specifically, for YP, the Yellow Pages app. This is the first time I didn’t get a hard copy of this weighty fixture of American life. It made me think how far we’ve come in dropping hard-copy information services — the Yellow Pages has gone the way of videotapes and exists now only as an app.

The YP app also got me thinking about how far we haven’t come in DC plan reporting. For the most part, we remain paperbound, consuming reams for investment committee meetings, fund performance, committee notes, plan reviews, participation reviews, participant education and retirement readiness monitoring. But is hard copy the most effective method for plan reporting?
