DOL Seeks to Move Pension Filings to the Cloud

The ERISA public disclosure website — which houses filings by health and pension plans of private employers  — is headed for the cloud. According to Federal Times, the Department of Labor (DOL) is choosing a vendor that can provide a FedRAMP-certified cloud for this purpose.

The DOL’s request for information (RFI) for a vendor to host the website was open to any vendor, although the DOL was especially interested in bids from:

  • small businesses;
  • small businesses owned by veterans disabled in their service; and
  • HUBZone small businesses.
The DOL’s Employee Benefit Security Administration, not the vendor, will maintain the site.

The transfer to a cloud-based platform involves a great deal of information — the public disclosure website contains around 12 terabytes of forms in PDF format. Federal Times reports that the files grow by 450 gigabytes every year.
