Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday — initially because I liked watching too many football games, eating too much turkey and doing nothing without feeling guilty about overindulging. Later it took on a different meaning — a time for me to reflect on what I’m grateful for.

I’m grateful to be in a business that helps people reach their dreams by helping them to retire with dignity. And I’m grateful to be able to affect and be affected by so many dedicated professionals, as part of NAPA and TRAU.

We seem to be living in a transformational time, both because of changes forced by the government and because the business is adjusting to the changing needs of our clients. Our industry is getting a lot of attention from almost every sector of society — and even the rest of the world. Like it or not, we are “center stage.”

So while there are a lot of things I know we would all like to improve, like the number of people on track to retire comfortably or the many issues we have to sort out, I would rather focus on what we as an industry have accomplished in a relatively short time, while being mindful of what remains to be done. In other words, on progress, not perfection. I feel very hopeful because of the amazing start of NAPA and NAPA Net, and the opportunities that they afford all of us to make a difference.

Look for the next issue of the Daily on Monday, Nov. 26. From all of us at NAPA, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
