Who’s Your Pick to Win (or Lose) the World Series?

Daily News

And now we know – it will be the Houston Astros against the Washington Nationals in the 2019 World Series. So who – or what – will you be rooting for – or against?

As anyone who lives within earshot of the nation’s capital can tell you, the Nationals swept the St. Louis Cardinals in four games to secure their first pennant in franchise history – and that’s including their time in the league as the Montreal Expos (1969 - 2004). It’s also the very first World Series appearance for a Washington, D.C., team since 1933 (as the Washington Senators, though they didn’t win that series). Another fun fact; having finally made it to the Fall Classic, the Nationals became the 29th of the current 30 franchises in Major League Baseball to reach the World Series (Seattle Mariners fans are still waiting).

As for those Astros – well, it’s their third World Series appearance, and second in three years (they won it in 2017) – after (finally) defeating the Yankees in six games in this year’s American League Championship.

This happens to be the second World Series to feature two expansion teams (2015 the first, when the Royals bested the Mets) – and while the Astros were members of the National League until 2012, they never met the Expos or Nationals in the postseason during their tenure in the National League - making this the first ever postseason meeting between the franchises.

But this week we want to give you a chance to weigh in – who are you hoping to see win (or lose), how many games you think this particular contest will go, if these aren’t your teams, who did you hope would be there – oh, and by popular demand, we are bringing back our reader poll of favorite baseball movies.

And, of course, we’ll have it all wrapped up for you on Friday!
