TGIF. No, Really.

TGIF

If you think you’ve had a bad week, just remember – it could have been worse. Check out what happened to these guys (and gals)…

In Ballwin, Missouri, an unnamed woman was riding in her car… with a TV in the front passenger seat… when she made a turn… leading to the TV rolling from the seat… onto the woman’s legs… leading to her acceleration… leading to this… (of course, we have a picture). Oh, and what happened to the TV?

In Las Vegas, Nevada, we’ve had stories about people trying to “sneak” into the HOV lanes with dummies and even pets as the required “occupants”… but Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Travis Smaka encountered a carpooling first here recently…

In Coney Island, New York, an unnamed man standing in line at the Dunkin/Baskin Robbins shop on Surf Avenue here adjusted his pants… leading to a (loaded) handgun dropping onto the floor… the weapon was illegal… and the location… unfortunate (yes, law enforcement officers were present – let the jokes about donuts and cops begin)… but that wasn’t the worst of his problems…

In College Station, Texas, Alyssa Salvato, 24, entered the Shipley Do-Nuts store here around 2:00 a.m…. and set off an intruder alarm… Now Alyssa, who was apparently inebriated, did try to shut off the alarm… but when that didn’t work… well, she made things worse…

In Samut Prakan, Thailand, Sopha Ardjalee, 46, was stopped for riding motorcycle without a license plate… except, as it turned out, Sopha made a living selling drugs… and so, after being pulled over and subjected to a search, he fought back, and made his escape… and, for a time he managed to remain uncaptured… but not exactly “free”… eventually (24 hours) requiring police to help him escape from his escape… and yes, we have pictures…

In Bellwood, Illinois, an unnamed 26-year-old man may have set a new record for the most unsuccessful carjackings in a row… How many? Thought you’d never ask…

And finally, in a TGIF-follow-up, in Kansas City, Kansas, Lawrence John Ripple, 71, who last fall handed a note to a bank teller here demanding cash and warning he had a gun… took $2,924… and adjourned to the lobby… where he later told a guard he was the “guy he was looking for”… well, he subsequently pled guilty… and while he could have spent up to 37 months in prison, a request for leniency by his attorney and federal prosecutors (supported by the vice president of the bank and the teller he confronted) resulted in a sentence of three years of supervised probation, including 50 hours of community service, as well as payment of $227.27 to the bank he robbed (the billable hours for bank employees who were sent home on the day of robbery), and $100 to a crime victims fund… and one other element that was particularly ironic considering Lawrence’s stated reason for committing the crime in the first place…

Have a great weekend, folks! Hope everyone had a great 4th! See you back here on Monday.
